Alex Zanardi never ceases to amaze.

The former CART and F1 driver who lost both legs in a 2001 accident, took home two gold and one silver medal along with two world titles at the UCI Para-Cycling World Championships in Greenville, South Carolina.

Zanardi was part of the Italian national team that took the relay victory in the MH5 category, he defended his world-title in the time-trial, and won the silver medal in the road race.

“I am certainly very happy with my results,” Zanardi said. “It is the world championships and I am going home with three medals in my pocket, so I could not really ask for anything more. For my age, which is nearly 48, it is great and the good news is that I will not give up and will come back stronger.”

Zanardi won’t get much rest as he races his BMW Z4 GT3 in the fifth round of the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series at Portimao, Portugal on Sept. 7.
